Below you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
If you don’t see the answer to your question here, do feel free to contact us
How do I order a wedding cake?
Use our enquiry form located on the Contact Us page
Are you based on Waiheke Island?
Yes, we are based on Waiheke and we deliver the cake to your chosen venue; so no more relying on others to collect the cake and set it up for you! One less thing to worry about.
How do I order a wedding cake if I’m currently overseas?
Contact Sweet Cakes (or have a New Zealand friend or relative do it for you) to make an initial inquiry.
All the details can be arranged via email and if you have any pictures/ photos or ideas of your own, then please feel free to email them through and we will endeavour to create the wedding cake of your dreams.
How close to my wedding should I book the wedding cake?
To maintain quality, we limit the number of wedding cakes we produce. It is a good idea to make contact with us as soon as you have your wedding date and venue confirmed.
Can you deliver the cake, and if so what time will you deliver it?
Yes, Sweet Cakes personally delivers your wedding cake to the venue on the wedding day. It is delivered and set-up approximately an hour before your guests are expected to arrive or by another time if required.
Does delivery cost extra?
No, this is included in the price of the cake
Can you produce other designs?
Sweet Cakes is happy to work with any ideas you may have. Attach them to your email and we can work together to create the cake of your dreams.
Can you make a plain cake so my florist can put fresh flowers on it?
Yes, Sweet Cakes will deliver your cake to the venue on the day. We work with the local florists on Waiheke and we deliver the cake at the same time the florist is setting their arrangements up.
Do you supply fresh flowers for the cake?
No, this needs to be arranged and paid for through your florist. We do work closely with the local florists on Waiheke, so please mention Sweet Cakes is your cake supplier and it should be a simple process.
What is the most popular flavour for wedding cakes?
The majority of wedding cakes are now chocolate. The most popular flavour is our Chocolate Fudge Cake, which is decadently rich yet light; and it also has the added benefit of being gluten free!
What flavours do you offer?
Chocolate fudge (gluten free & the most popular by far), chocolate truffle, carrot & pineapple, lemon syrup or add gin!, vanilla, brandied fruit, banana, white chocolate mud or add passionfruit for that taste of the summer season! If you have another flavour in mind, maybe an old child-hood memory; let us know and I am sure we can make it!
Can we sample your flavours?
No sorry. Sweet Cakes works from a commercial kitchen at the Onetangi Beach Apartments. We are not set-up as a cake shop and therefore do not produce cakes on a daily basis with the ability to have fresh samples on offer. Please do read our ‘Recommended by’ page and our ‘Testimonials’ page for positive and inspiring notes from some of our many happy customers.
If I have a three tier cake can I have three different flavours?
Yes, you can have each tier of cake a different flavour.
If I had different flavours, can it be iced in fondant?
Yes, the cakes would be iced with a frosting to match the flavour cake and then covered with the traditional smooth white fondant.
My relative would like to make a fruit cake for our wedding, can you decorate it for us?
Yes, we are happy to ice and decorate your fruit cake. We do not ice soft cakes (chocolate, banana etc) made by other people.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, a 50% deposit is required to confirm your wedding cake on that date. The balance is due 3 weeks prior to the wedding date. Changes can be made to the cake details if required up until 3 weeks prior to the wedding date.
